Abstract

The research presented below is the result of a case study research carried out with the Theory of Communication I and History of El Salvador students from the Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages: Specialization in French and English of the Foreign Languages Department of the School of Arts and Sciences at the University of El Salvador. The research was developed following a qualitative methodology with the purpose of studying and understanding the importance of adefined specialization in the Communications area of the major. The findings on this research are shown in the results segments where we appreciate the interesting opinions from each student that was part of the two focal groups made. These opinions were helpful tothis research because we were able to find the desired specializations that students need in their professional catalogue. Based on the above, as a general suggestion, a call is made to the authorities of this Department to analyze, evaluate, and execute a prompt update to the 2002 study plan from this major with the purpose to include at least one defined specialization while other options are being considered to be added, there is a need for a practical focus on this curricula which will help students to apply the theory studied, and as a perk, this would lead them to obtain the essential experience that would facilitate them the finding of a job place in their minor
