Abstract

RESUMEN: El objetivo del estudio fue analizar si las prácticas de agricultura familiar mejoran la seguridad alimentaria y condiciones de vida en las comunidades: La Canoa, San Jacinto, El Volcán y El Brazo. La investigación se realizó con un enfoque de integralidad (cuantitativo y cualitativo), participaron 197 familias, distribuidos en 70 familias constituidas solo con personas adultas y 127 familias con miembros menores de edad. La muestra cualitativa estuvo constituida por 10 jefes de hogar con representación de ambos sexos. A partir de los datos procesados, se crearon índices sumatorios ponderados utilizando la metodología de Padua y otros (1979). Se construyó un Índice de Asistencia a la Producción (IAP), resultando un 49.7% de IAP bajo; un 43.7% de IAP medio y un 6.6%. IAP alto. Asimismo, se creó un Índice de Producción Agropecuaria Familiar (IPAF), encontrando un 55.3% de IPAF bajo, un 42.2% IPAF medio, y 2.5% IPAF alto. Utilizando la metodología de la Escala Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Seguridad Alimentaria (ELCSA), se calcularon los niveles de Seguridad Alimentaria para hogares con adultos, y se encontró un 8.7% de Seguridad Alimentaria (SA); un 34.6% Inseguridad Alimentaria Leve (IL); un 22.8% Inseguridad Alimentaria Moderada (IM); y un 33.9% Inseguridad Alimentaria Severa (IS). Los hogares con menores de edad, se encontró un 8.6% de (SA); un 31.4% con (IL); un 32.9% (IM); y un 27.1% con (IS). Por otra parte, se analizaron las condiciones de vida, identificando un 61.9% de hogares con condiciones de vida regular; un 34.5% con condiciones de vida buena; y un 3.6% en condiciones de vida mala. En conclusión, las prácticas de agricultura familiar no están mejorando los niveles de seguridad alimentaria y bajo esa dinámica, no mejoran las condiciones de vida. ABSTRACT: The objective of the study was to analyze whether family farming practices improve the food security and living conditions in the communities: La Canoa, San Jacinto, The Volcano and The Arm. The research was carried out with a comprehensive approach (quantitative and qualitative), 197 families participated, distributed in 70 families constituted only with adults and 127 families with minor members. The qualitative sample consisted of 10 heads of household with representation of both genders. From the processed data, weighted summation indices were created using the methodology of Padua and others (1979). An Index of Attendance to the Production (IAP), resulting in a 49.7% low IAP; 43.7% average IAP and 6.6%. high IAP. Likewise, an Index of Family Agricultural Production (IPAF) was created, finding 55.3% low IPAF, 42.2% medium IPAF, and 2.5% high IPAF. Using the methodology of the Latin American and Caribbean Security Scale Security (ELCSA), the Food Security levels for households were calculated with adults, and 8.7% of Food Security (FS) was found; 34.6% Mild Food Insecurity (IL); 22.8% Moderate Food Insecurity (MI); and 33.9% Severe Food Insecurity (SI). Households with minors found 8.6% of (SA); 31.4% with (IL); 32.9% (IM); and 27.1% with (IS). On the other hand, living conditions were analyzed, identifying 61.9% of households with regular living conditions; 34.5% with good living conditions; and 3.6% in poor living conditions. In conclusion, family farming practices are not improving the levels of food security and under this dynamic, they do not improve the life conditions
