Abstract

ABSTRACT Machine Translations (MT) play in today’s world a crucial role for human translators. The efficacy that these tools bring to breaking down language barriers in various fields of expertise, such as the legal field, is important to the process of translating a text; however, it may also bring a series of implications in the accuracy of cultural differences from one language to another. That being the case, this research study presents the requirements that human translators need to be aware of at the moment of using a Machine Translation (MT). This work addresses the importance and necessity of having a translation process to achieve a natural and culturally appropriated translation as well as translation techniques, which were the base of every translation work done throughout the specialization course. Each translation had its own process and techniques adapted to the translator's personal style to preserve its essence, likewise, all the treated images presented in this project were made with editing tools that technology has given as an advantage. Platforms such as MateCat, Linguee, ProZ, etc., were also an essential use to fill the linguistic gaps in the translated texts as it was important not to be limited and depended on a single specific translator, especially when the words and phrases were unfamiliar due to the different fields. The outcome of this work shows that while Machine Translations (MT) can greatly assist human translators in legal documents and facilitate the translation process in terms of time and efficiency, it has also shown that there is no translation superior to human translation, capable of recognizing every twist and turn in a text.
