Abstract

The research project addresses the development of the writing skills of students who are learning English as a foreign language. It investigates the strategies that students use to write an essay and the progress they had during the composition II course. As such, it aims to study what writing strategies help English Composition students at the Foreign Language Department to write better/well-structured essays. The analysis was founded on a quasi-experimental research carried out by the means of an non experimental method. The former was conducted in the University of El Salvador, to students of the Licenciatura en Idioma Ingles who were taking composition II course in 2014, making interventions of the strategies on howto write an essay, and also, a questionnaire where students stated the strategies they use to write their essays. It was completed by observation of the grades obtained during the course. At its turn the observation of the grades, interventions and questionnaire were analyzed
